I think this might be the healthiest chocolate smoothie out there! Chocolate plus raspberry is always a winning combination. To enhance the flavors of the chocolate, I added some almond butter, caramely maca powder and a touch of vanilla extract. Like virtually all of my smoothies, I added some vegetables (this time frozen zucchini) for extra nutrition and creaminess. Lastly, this smoothie also contains chia seeds for thickening power, in addition to healthy fats, fiber and protein.
While this chocolate raspberry maca smoothie won’t fool anyone into thinking they’re drinking a milkshake, it is still delicious in its own right. It’s super thick and creamy, and the cocoa powder and maca powder combine forces to create a rich chocolate taste. Of course, since it’s unsweetened and only contains one serving of fruit it’s not too sweet, but I still encourage everyone to try it out!
- 1 c. unsweetened almond milk
- 1 c. frozen raspberries
- 1 c. frozen chopped zucchini
- 2 T. unsweetened almond butter
- 2 T. cocoa or cacao powder
- 1 T. maca powder
- 2 T. chia seeds, soaked in 2 T. water for 10 minutes
- ½ tsp. vanilla extract
- Combine all ingredients in a blender until smooth.
